Daisy Vega Monarrez, BS

As a First-Generation Latina Student attending university studying Biomedical Sciences, my main goal is to represent my people as well as to educate them about what my research is about. I work as an undergraduate research assistant alongside the Cope Group at the Pathogenic and Microbiome Institute at Northern Arizona University. We primarily look at the role of the microbiota in chronic illnesses such as Alzheimer's, Asthma, and several other airway diseases. I also work as a peer mentor with the First-Generation Student Support Services which allows me to relay the knowledge I have gained throughout my years at NAU and help first-year students with the transition from high school to university.
